Almost two years ago, if you told me integrating with Fayda's identity authentication services would be as simple as generating a sandbox API key on a portal, I would have been skeptical.

When I first began my journey integrating with Fayda, the landscape was entirely different. Getting a simple test to run was a rite of passage. It took patience, persistence, and plenty of back-and-forth just to get a successful response. But as an early adopter, you expect these growing pains.

Over the past two years, I've watched, and participated in, the steady, incredible improvement of this ecosystem. Along the way, I had the opportunity to build and contribute to the official SDKs (you can find fayda-auth-go and fayda-auth-python on GitHub) to make life easier for the developers coming after me.

Today marks a massive milestone for the Ethiopian developer and startup ecosystem: The Fayda Sandbox is officially live.

What This Means for Startups and Devs

I often hear variations of this from ambitious founders and indie hackers:

“I’m a startup. I haven’t officially established a company yet, but I’ve built a great system and I want to explore how I can use Fayda to showcase my product and create a market for it.”

Previously, the technical barriers to entry might have discouraged that kind of grassroots innovation. Now, Fayda provides you with sandbox credentials to test your system and explore integration without jumping through bureaucratic or infrastructural hoops.

Developers, startups, and partners can now freely access and test Fayda APIs directly from the Fayda Partner Portal. No VPNs required. No network meetings needed just to ping an endpoint.

How to Get Started

The path from idea to integration is now a straight line:

  1. Access the Portal: Head over to the FaydaPartners Portal.
  2. Get Credentials: Generate your Sandbox credentials instantly.
  3. Test: Hit the Fayda APIs in the Sandbox environment and see how it fits into your app.
  4. Integrate: Implement Fayda into your system (feel free to use the Go or Python SDKs!).
  5. Launch: When you have tested everything and your system is solid, apply to go live to production.

As someone who has been in the weeds with Fayda integration from the very beginning, seeing this Developer Portal go live is incredibly exciting. It lowers the barrier to entry, fosters innovation, and opens up digital identity integration to everyone.
